I was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Combat Engineers in 1974 and completed the Officer Basic Course at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, in 1975.  I was part of a control group for eight years and was honorably discharged at the rank of Captain in 1982.

- M.S. Geological Engineering, 1974, University of Missouri at Rolla;
- B.S. Geological Engineering, 1972, University of Missouri at Rolla.
- Registered Civil Engineer in Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, and Georgia.

Professional Activities
- Member, American Society of Civil Engineers, past President and Treasurer of the Georgia Geotechnical Committee, and past member of the Pile Standards Committee.
- Member, Deep Foundations Institute, past member of the Auger-Cast Pile Committee.
- Member, Transportation Research Board.
